We start with a conversation to talk about your project and what kind of editing help you need. If you decide to work with me, I'll read your text several times and then provide you with a thorough analysis, including very specific recommendations for ways to improve the manuscript.
If you decide you'd like to continue to work with me, I'll give you a written proposal outlining my scope of services, deadlines and fees for the next phase. For some clients, I serve as a writing coach, while others use me as a developmental (substantive) editor or ghostwriter. If your manuscript is nearly done, I can give it a last polish before you send it out to agents.
I will be happy to refer you to one of the New York-based agents with whom I work if I believe your project is a good fit for their interests. If you want to self-publish, I can explain all the options and help you design and launch your e-book, print-on-demand book and audio book. Our small press, Story Bridge Books, offers another publishing option for clients. I can also direct you to good resources to help you create a self-publishing marketing plan and budget.
